Chapters 1 and 2: I used to read this book over and over, but it's been a while so I don't remember much..But I am surprised by how familiar "that great grey beast February" hit me, like a nursery rhyme from my ancient past.
In my head, Rictus is voiced by Steve Buscemi (in full used car salesman mode).

If you like talking dragons and long tasty fantasy novels I'd like to suggest Robin Hobb's DRAGON KEEPER and DRAGON HAVEN (which I guess were written as one book but split for publication). KEEPER doesn't have as much talkin' dragon stuff in it as the other one but sets HAVEN up for awesomenness.
