@muchlibrary Yeah all the big ones are trash. u.s. librarians should #ReadSettlers tbh but failing that don't join the major u.s. unions if you have a choice, they're pretty much all irredeemable. There can be good reasons to choose to work *with* one but for an example of why not to join look at ALU & how they formed, maintaining their independence. @kcrowe

The uncritical enthusiasm for the campaign to unionize #starbucks is frustrating af.

starbucks has been rightly made a symbol of #gentrification, but with this campaign all the leftists & progressives cheering it on seem to have suddenly forgotten that, or decided that violent displacement of Black communities doesn't matter anymore.

The fact that the workforce at many of the early locations to go public with their campaigns is white af is just more evidence that white workers just matter more to people.

And since the campaign is attached to the #SEIU, a union that shills for the democrats & continues to include thousands of cops & prison guards in its ranks, it isn't surprising that their public attitude towards starbucks-the-company is "there's nothing wrong with the ultimate aims of this multinational corporation, just share the stolen wealth with us too!!" - despite the repression they've faced from management since day one.

It's exactly the kind of bullshit calls to #ReadSettlers are supposed to challenge: white labor in the u.s. improves its conditions at the explicit expense of everyone else. The "white working class" is oppressive, reactionary, & at present there is no reason to expect the pattern to change.

The Communist Party of #Cuba (PSP) spent years allied with Machado & Batista before the Cuban Revolution & opposed the guerrilla war against u.s.-backed Batista for years.

The french Communist Party (PCF) opposed Algerian Independence throughout the freedom struggle against #france.

One of the earliest slogans of the South African Communist Party (SACP) was "Workers of the world, unite and fight for a white #SouthAfrica!"

The CPUSA...well, just #ReadSettlers.

We could go on, & we could do so with left-wing parties that don't claim to be communist as well, but hopefully you get the point by now. (If you don't, you can ask for clarification.)

So if you see leftists online taking horrible & openly counterrevolutionary positions, don't fall into the trap of thinking such betrayals are unprecedented or are only happening because The Internet Ruins Things. Because they're not.
