Has anyone applied for their #RealID? I tried to give them by birth certificate and my social security card. They said neither was good enough. My Mom laminated my SS card when I was a little boy not realizing you weren’t supposed to do that. I have no idea why they rejected my original (not copy) birth certificate; it’s on card stock, has the notary public seal and my finger / foot prints. I asked my Mom and she said that’s all she has.

For many people there are easier federal options, including a passport card. If you already have a passport, all you do is pay $35 and they mail it to you. It's a great ID w/o your address on it and isn't easily scannable for personal info at bars or restaurants.

And passports/cards are now not trans/non-binary hostile (finally)

#RealID is a #conservative conspiracy to harass disenfranchised populations who, due to a System designed against them, may not have all their paperwork and proof of ID and may not have the means to replace it. RealID is a conspiracy to prevent travel and harass people into remaining in place, with the potential to incarcerate them (in, to no one's surprise, for-profit privatized prisons), with the added benefit of bolstering headcount in conservative gerrymandered districts.

See, #BoostMobile and #MintMobile were merely incompetent. They lost my phone number through incompetence, I fought them for three weeks over incompetence.

All my paperwork (driver's license, social security, tax returns, military record, etc.) except my birth certificate (clerical error) list my legal name as W, so the MN DPS-DVS has decided my court order for name change is invalid.

Time to get my REAL ID driver’s license. My state started issuing them just after I got my current license and the deadline for needing it to fly keeps getting pushed back. Now I’m up for renewal.

So I spent $43 and got a copy of my certificate of birth, I have two official letters addressed to me, my social security card (the original one!), and my expiring DL.

Also shaved and combed my hair, trimmed my fingernails, and I’m wearing a clean shirt.

The #NewJersey Motor Vehicle Commission's #RealID checklist page is reasonably thorough, reasonably explicit, reasonably easy to use, and even reminds you to print the results out to bring with you when getting your RealID license/identicard.

It also has SIGNIFICANT bugs in its print stylesheet, such that the WRONG DOCUMENTS ARE DISPLAYED WHEN YOU PRINT!

At the #DMV today, I observed a number of elderly people attempting to renew their drivers license were denied #RealID because they lacked sufficient address verification - a bank statement or utility bill. I saw the same issue repeated for young applicants, too. It irritates me that politicians have created an #ableist gate that excludes the #unbanked and #unhoused from access to federal facilities and public transit.

Any time I feel bad about the deadline for one of my projects slipping, I just think about the border agency of the United States #CBP. Their most recent example is this one; #RealID is another fun rabbit hole

@brion According to #VitalChek, a birth certificate from #Indiana should take 90-100 days to arrive. It's now been 140 days since my order was verified/approved and it has yet to be shipped, etc. I contacted them today and was advised to check back with them in another week.

If others are having this experience, I can't imagine them realistically enforcing #RealID any time soon.

I wonder how many times I’ve renewed my driver license in these 17 years.

@brion I've been waiting some 8 months to get my long-form birth certificate from #Indiana since my home county only issues short-form, which I have, but that is unacceptable for a #RealID.
