> I hate it so fucking much when they call it all mastodon instead of the fediverse.
In this case, the main instance I use can dodge blame because it runs #rebased instead lol
> it's even more prevalent on platforms like twitter or discord.
you're probably right
I decided to test something, and this here cinches it, I'll most likely be using #Kbin as my #Reddit replacement moving forward.
At first I thought that #Kbin didn't federate with #rebased because I couldn't view any of my posts from social.teci.world, but they load from rebased.io. Not sure if that just had something to do with how social.teci.world is set up?

I'm so split with #Fediverse alternatives to #Reddit right now...I have been testing three software, all with their own pros and cons:
#Lotide: seamless federation with #Mastodon and #rebased, link posts show the links properly within the post, but federation with #Lemmy and #Kbin seems a bit limited, if technically functional, equating to not being able to see very much content from other #Lemmy and #Kbin instances
#Kbin: Quick, lightweight, link posts show up in the posts properly. and it federates with #Lemmy and #Mastodon quite well, but it is almost completely incompatible with #rebased (accounts will load, but posts will not)
#Lemmy: Great interface, vibrant community, federates with #Kbin, #Lotide, #Mastodon and #rebased, but link posts do not appear properly (they link to the post, not the link the post points to), and the software had a fairly considerable security vulnerability recently
To me, the dream software would be #Kbin that works with all #Fediverse software; full interoperability across the network is the only thing that it's truly missing.
#fediverse #reddit #lotide #mastodon #rebased #lemmy #kbin
@lnxw37b2 #Pleroma + #Akkoma + #rebased-compatible apps tend to suck, mostly. They either don't support the most basic differentiating features (such as emoji reactions and quote posts), are barebones to the point of ugliness, or both.
#Husky is so hilariously behind when it comes to support for these major features that I'm pretty shocked it's still recommended at all. #Fedilab seems to be the only one that supports all the features but it has a nasty #UI bug that duplicates the emoji reaction button
#pleroma #akkoma #rebased #husky #fedilab #ui
I'm looking for a customizable, resource-efficient Mastodon #fork. Somehow I cannot find a recent post on that. #Bonfire? #Rebased? Or go non-Ruby, like #Pleroma (nah), #Misskey #Calckey #Lemmy (hui)?
This is part of an endeavour to host w/ a #RaspberryPi & #solarpower. #MastodonMigration
Potential features:
- tweaking network traffic
- media options: off, auto compression, auto delete
- monitoring server metrics, energy flow, sharing data through a bot
- auto-off when battery low, sad emoji

@thatguyoverthere Yes what I meant was I don't think #akkoma is detracting from the #pleroma + #rebased userbase to the point where it's contributing to these declining numbers
@thatguyoverthere TBH I disagree. Something is causing people to be losing interest in #pleroma and #rebased, and I don't think it's #akkoma.
Checking #FediDB, the numbers for #pleroma + #rebased don't look great. Combined they make up for 1.1% of software distribution on the #Fediverse, and usage seems to be declining across all metrics, including active users, instances, and users per instance.
#fedidb #pleroma #rebased #fediverse
@seanking There's no lie in what he said tho, the #Pleroma and #Akkoma devs have been intentionally hostile to @alex out of pure intolerance and it had been a nightmare for him to deal with them.
Frankly I would say that he and #Soapbox and #rebased are better without them, but #Pleroma isn't necessarily in the most vibrant state rn
#pleroma #akkoma #soapbox #rebased
Hmm here's one benefit #Kbin has over #Lemmy that I'm noticing: on the #Mastodon end of the #Fediverse, link posts from #Kbin include the article link, while #Lemmy posts include the link to the #Lemmy post, meaning that #Kbin article posts can contribute to #Mastodon trends, but #Lemmy posts effectively cannot.
However a big downside of both is that neither seem to federate with either #rebased or the #rebased instance I'm using properly (not sure which is the issue at hand here), which is disappointing.
#kbin #lemmy #mastodon #fediverse #rebased
@ademan @realcaseyrollins@social.teci.world Not the #rebased instance I use, I'm sure
I'm mostly just fiddling around with #Ditto so Imma just assume that everything isn't working properly yet
@realcaseyrollins@social.teci.world It's @5f0a6c0c4ad5a0766a451b7b34ee8ae4c266a96779339f672f9a2d140c820c14
@kjr @alex Yep! So #Soapbox was originally a fork of #Gab which was a fork of #Mastodon. It eventually was rebuilt by forking #Pleroma and retaining the existing #Soapbox frontend, and now the #rebased backend and #Soapbox (the frontend) have been split apart, with (IIRC) the intention of #Soapbox being a multipurpose frontend that can be used with different #Fediverse software, and #rebased being a lightweight #Fediverse backend software.
You can visit fe.soapbox.pub to check out #Soapbox and try the software with your instance! It works quite well with #Mastodon and #Pleroma especially, I can't remember if it supports #Misskey at all.
#soapbox #gab #mastodon #pleroma #rebased #fediverse #misskey
@kjr Mostly poor federation, especially with #Kbin but also with #Rebased / #Pleroma
