Whilst #dreams don't necessarily have to have a purpose as they could *only* be the random firing of brain activity. However, the general hypothesis is that dreams are how the mind (brain, etc) processes information. Basically, evolutionary - sleeping must be very important for brain health - as sleeping (& dreaming) is a vulnerable time for any organism.

However, I think you're asking if dreams have some deeper mysterious meaning that we should analyze. Dreams are physiological (neurological). Their "meaning" is physiological.

I don't tend to research dreams. However, there are scientists that do.

I was explaining to my wife yesterday how #DifferentialCalculus gives us a way to find the #gradient of a #function at any point and to illustrate it I wrote a short routine in #Maxima to draw the #tangent to any point on a graph of a function. Here we see the example for the #quadratic and #reciprocal functions, x^2 and 1/x i.e. a #parabola and a #hyperbola respectively.
