Well the Presonus Quantum 4848 is removed from the rack and awaiting its final disconnection from my system. The Apogee Symphony arrived at the L&M Ontario depot from California a couple of days ago, so it should be here soon. Getting excited now.

I thought connecting an old mixer to my audio interface via line for recording would be a good idea - who'd have thought there might be issues :D I just wanted three mic inputs instead of just two. Right now there is a loud hiss, but maybe I'll find a solution

The concept of not turning off the equipment in the studio in order to maintain the Presonus Quantum 4848 audio interface in a working state is now over. The BC Hydro bill came in yesterday & it’s ****ing outrageous. Powered down last night, and lo & behold, the Quantum isn’t working when I started up today. Fortunately the Apogee Symphony has just shipped from Ontario.

Decided I needed to get off my ass and start getting something, anything, happening in my studio. So I pulled out my old cover of For Your Love by The Yardbird. It's been on my "desperately in need of a remix" list for a while now. Pretty simple song, and so far I'm happy with my progress. All the months of work I did on the reworking of my Tom Petty Free Fallin' cover is really paying off I think.

Want backing vocals in your track? Want it to sound like a choir? When engineers record real choirs they typically use 2 mics at most. Simulate this by standing in different places away from the mic and recording those vocals.

It'll simulate the way vocalists individual voices interplay with a room's sound and the effect on their distance to the mic.

tip of the day?

If you want a track to sound old, nostalgic, retro, you can use any old tape recorder. Old dictaphones are great for this

Take your track & add a sound at the very beginning of the stem (like a clap) as this will help you align later.

Press record on the tape first. Hold it by the speakers. Press play on a solo'd track. Rerecord the line out or use a mic on the internal speaker for more grunge!

tip of the day?

Like the sound of a room or stairwell? Want to recreate that in your DAW? Take a recorder (can even be your phone for added effect), stand a few feet away from it and clap your hands as quick and loud as you can.

Now import that clap sound into a convolution reverb effect. It should give you a nice approximation.
