Trump's lawyers want and judge Aileen to punish the for committing the of arguing for a trial date they don't like. And if the past is prologue, Cannon just might do it. I don't believe it's possible to secure a conviction in Cannon's court, so maybe it would be best for Special Consel to dismiss the case and focus solely on the case. Either that or Smith should move for Cannon's .

"And like Scalia, Alito argued that the seat on Singer’s private jet would have otherwise remained 'vacant' if he had not accepted the invitation."

Failure to recuse is not a new problem, nor one which the court is likely to remedy without corrective legislation.

The article also recounts Justice Stevens' notes protesting Chief Justice Rehnquist's failure to recuse in a Microsoft case.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Bruce Reinhart
should recuse himself from the trial proceedings. He has demonstrated through his prior actions that he cannot be impartial.

“The order from Reinhart, who was appointed by other judges and has criticized Trump on social media, comes in response to a request for such an order from prosecutors.”

Question for constitutional scholars and lawyers. Can the legislative and executive branches together adopt laws regulating the judiciary? Can standards for ethics, behavior and recusal be legislatively imposed on the judicial branch, or are the other branches powerless to influence the judiciary’s internal actions?

@danielschuman @waldoj @tdwllms1 it’s stunning that we don’t have any institutional guardrails at all on , but I suppose the implicit understanding that justices would be thoughtful people of honor & probity doesn’t apply anymore.
