"Red apples" were one of my grandma's many specialties. Granny Smith apples, sliced thin, cooked in dissolved cinnamon red hots. I add cinnamon oil for extra kick, and let them sit in the cold garage for a few days.
She has been gone about 15 years now. Mine get a little better every year, but still not as good as hers.
