Redox Summer of Code 2023 Wrapup
This year’s Redox Summer of Code program has seen us add some exciting capabilities to Redox. Our three interns each came up with their own project proposals, and delivered major new functionality. In addition to our paid internships, our volunteer contributors also made major strides this summer.
This year's projects include VirtIO drivers, the project to use Linux

@soller thanks for explaining the ui toolkit situation about #iced and #slint for #redoxos in your interview with @BrodieOnLinux
Apps and driver support in Redox OS
The availability of support for various apps and drivers (for various hardware and software) is crucial for the general adoption of any general purpose operating system like Redox OS. Some of us developers are working on improving the core of Redox OS (like the Kernel), which should create a solid base on which high quality native drivers and apps can be created wi

a quick look into the recent release of #redoxos, a rapidly evolving #microkernel #operatingsystem written by @soller et al. in the memory-safe programming language #rust
btw it went beyond #unix "everything is a file" approach by actually implementing url: https://doc.redox-os.org/book/ch04-04-urls.html – #redox #rustlang

#RedoxOS is a Unix-like/ish microkernel OS written entirely in Rust, led by Jeremy @soller of @system76
#SerenityOS is a Unix-like OS with a 90s themed GUI. I don't know much at all about it, but it seems like it's trying to be #Linux from 20 years ago, which excites me greatly. XD
First rendering of #Slint using #OrbClient from #redox 😀. This is a good sign that I can soon run Slint on Redox OS @soller ;-).

Thank you my friends @james @tallship @RTP and all others for boosting my #Rust post. It was very great for me.
Also thanks for your recommendations.
For everyone else, you can look at this thread above and consider to boost and participate in Rust application recommendation.

I've read into #RedoxOS a bit today. The "Everything is a URL" design philosophy and how the microkernel is structured around the schemes made me fall in love with the concept. Really makes you think what our operating systems could've been...
