@Kellyshenanigans I sewed rectangles of worn out t-shirts together in three layers with an old teatowel for a top and bottom layers to replace kitchen roll. I now use these for mopping up spills, then throw them in with the laundry to wash and reuse. Little ribbon loops on one corner mean they're just hung up in the kitchen, easy to grab when needed.

Cloth napkins/hankies: we made ours out of old baby receiving blankets, you can also buy them, or make them out of any reasonably soft fabric that can be washed hot. Cotton is nice. Sanitize by soaking in diluted H202 and wash hot. Feels nicer on your skin than paper

One way I reduce waste while I craft: I collect yarn scraps, and use them for stuffing toys. This helps me feel better about letting my kids play with yarn: if it gets too tangled to reuse, it gets another life as stuffing. Bonus: most of my yarn is already reused yarn from items given to charity that the charity didn't want, and then were sold for frogging (tearing apart) purposes by a local fabric recycler/thrift store. Yarn scraps are lighter/fluffier than fabric scraps. #crochet #ReduceWaste

@BOhUiginn I grew up just north of TO where, for most of the 60s & 70s, we separated & compacted our garbage because of a landfill shortage. We flattened everything, took glass pop bottles to the recycle depot & composted food & grass clippings. Clothes were 80% recycled. Even today I automatically take the paper labels off cans, stomp 'em, squish plastic bottles, flatten boxes, shop 2ndHand, etc.
I dunno what the young ppl do, but I hope it's at least as responsible as we were. #reducewaste

— Well, if you stop doing it and then communicate that and why you stopped doing it, that might make others think — and possibly change their behaviour, too. This is true for any action, be it flying, owning a car, buying fast fashion, or using to-go cups with plastic lids.

Every personal decision to do better might set off a ripple effect that might lead to change on a societal, even global scale.

(This is not to say that we could possibly save the world with personal actions alone; that requires political decisions above all. But these are based on the overall public sentiment, which in turn can be influenced by each of us.)

I've been getting back into using the bokashi bins. I'm not very good at emptying out the juice in the bottom though, sometimes that's a bit whiffy.

Today's experiment was putting the leftover solids from the chicken stock, so small bones, meat, vege pulp, in the bin. I did it in layers, with bokashi zing between them. Hoping I haven't overloaded it with meat and that it ferments ok. I'm trying to reduce what goes in the rubbish bin bit by bit.

On March 28, the #Canadian government’s budget announcement introduced a plan to implement a “right to repair” for electronic devices and home appliances in 2024, alongside a new 5 yr #TaxCredit worth $4.5 billion for Canadian #CleanTech manufacturers. The federal government will begin consultations on the plan in the summer.

#FixIt #ReduceWaste My security cam after three years is pretty much unusable. The cover glass on the lens is shot. Tried to clean it, tried to polish it. It's done.

Who knew replacement lenses for security cams only cost $4? They screw right into the camera housing inside the case.

Bought some flavoured pulled pork meat the other day. The instructions said “discard the juices”. This seemed insane, so drained them, let them cool, and put them in the fridge.

Just put it with some leftover tatties as an evening snack. All mashed in.

Lovely.

I fired up my old iPhone SE and it still works fine. Honestly, the planned obsolescence of IT is pretty bad. I probably shouldn't have switched to a newer phone and just try to use every tech item until it dies.
