Out to see the big redwood trees on a new trail! This one starts off in old growth, but then climbs through thinning big trees and into an old clear cut that isn't that old. They're still a lot nicer than what you'll find on the other side of the ridge where logging continues to this day. (Less than 5% of the old trees remain.)

Made a second attempt to hike the Lost Man Creek Trail yesterday and wasn't greeted with any mysterious "trail closed" sign! So I got to try it out and experience it's redwoods. Big ones at the bottom. Random big ones a little higher. Future big ones all the way after that. There's less than 5% of old growth redwoods left and this is one of those trails that shows it.

Last #ThickTrunkTuesday, I got out into the #OldGrowthForests in #RedwoodNationalPark. #Hiking Berry Glen, I can stop by a waterfall at one end and famous redwood grove at the other with exceptional trees all along the way.

Fern Canyon

Fern Canyon is located north of Eureka, Ca and is a real magical place.
The hike into the canyon and back is fairly short and easy but your feet are going to get wet.
Water drips through the canyon walls and is recovered in Fern Creek.
