I finished typing up and submitting an anonymous #PeerReview report for an academic journal. This was of a second revision and there were still problems with the #referencing. WTF? Why has referencing become so difficult for (typically young) scholars?

I'm using #Mendeley for #referencing in my assignments and it really bugs me that I can't easily see which collections a reference is in (preferably in list view). Am I missing something or should I use an alternative?
I'm newly returned to #academia so a bit out-of-date!

O to have some#accessible #referencing software that will work with my #iPad. Creating this reference list by hand is doing my head in. In other news, we had pies for lunch; Stan had a beef one and I had chicken.

Strange thing being able to watch/dissect Gary Numan's My Name Is Ruin and call it work.

Similarly re-watching Mad Max: Fury Road.

Having to wrangle references for the first time in quite a while. Anyone here that cites unusual material quite often and has opinions or examples? If I want to cite a markdown file on GitHub (as a webpage maybe?), is the author the owner of the repository, anyone who has committed to that file, other suggestions? Walked into a session this morning and the student nearest the door looked up, saw me and smiled and excitedly exclaimed "are you here to tell us about referencing"? My confirmation only increased her joy! Clearly doing something right if the sight of me talking about citations can bring about a smile. Certainly gave me a boost on a grey Monday morning!

@BlairWilliams26 This is a great question that will come up more often now that papers are put online ahead of their official issue. (I have mainly seen this crop up in terms of how to cite something that doesn’t yet have a vol/no.)

I reckon whichever date has been assigned to that volume and issue would be the one to cite, as well as the DOI, and depending on the style you’re using you could use square brackets in the ref list to show when it was “first published”, kind of how you might indicate the original edition date of a republished or translated work.
