TIL how simple it is to setup #ThinkPad #UEFI #dualboot (providing one OS is #Windows)
- Install Windows, leaving space free
- Install #osOfChoice (#NetBSD in my case) into free space
- Copy preferred bootx64.efi into /EFI/Boot
- Set ThinkPad BIOS to boot from the drive, *not* "Windows Boot Manager"
Default boot is now osOfChoice
To boot Windows, press F12 and just select "Windows Boot Manager"
Had been using #refind (which is still great for more complex cases)
#thinkpad #uefi #dualboot #windows #osofchoice #netbsd #t480 #t430 #refind
Install ubuntu dual boot on older mac mini (2014) #dualboot #partitioning #uefi #mac #refind

#btrfs #refind #grub #devuan #freebsd
I've updated my #Windows partition like 6 times and I am actually really surprised that my boot menu has not died out. Long Live #rEFInd and #VoidLinux
Nerdiest thing I've done all week by far...
Today I spent an extra couple hours on the command line while installing #linux to make sure the entire disk is encrypted at rest, except the ESP - while setting up #secureboot with custom keys - then saving signed unified kernel images to the ESP just so I can boot multiple different kernels with #refind instead of #grub. (refind normally can't do encrypted /boot).
How about you? Not just tech, anything that makes you nerd out!

#linux #secureboot #refind #grub #nerd #nerdalert

Another #Windows11 update, another manual re-enabling #refind so I can dual boot #netbsd
Imagine being so insecure that a user might want to run your OS that you have to keep overwriting the boot preferences to only boot it...
I still need to lookup the bcdedit command each time :)
bcdedit /set "{bootmgr}" path \EFI\refind\refind_x64.efi
@0xF21D I did it in my "legacy" unsupported 2011 27" #iMac. I'm running #ubuntu #MATE (with #compiz) on it and it's snappy and AWESOME to use. If you want to keep your copy of #macOS in dual boot, you just need to install #refind (bootloader) from APT once you finish the installation. #linux

What's your go-to tool for #readlater purposes?
Used #instapaper for a long time, but it doesn't connect with my #kobo #ereader.
#Pocket would work with Kobo, but … I feel weirdly against it?
Used #refind for a while, but that gives me even *more* stuff to read, which is unfortunate.
#alfread crashes too often and … fails to work with more than one device?
#matter won't remove articles from the list once read.
Any recommendations, experiences?

Now I dualboot #pop_os for gaming and #voidlinux for evrithing else. Also #refind is amzing.
👋 Hey, check out Refind! Every day #Refind picks 5 links from around the web that make you smarter, tailored to your interests. Loved by 100k curious minds. https://refind.com/?invite=9857e305c6

This #Debian #Linux wiki page just saved my life by introducing me to #rEFInd. Had an odd issue with a drive all of a sudden and rEFInd allowed me to boot into the system so I could reinstall my bootloader properly. This tool is invaluable. https://wiki.debian.org/GrubEFIReinstall
@freedcreative@merveilles.town I've used #refind with a mouse before:
https://www.rodsbooks.com/refind/
Not sure if that means it works with touch.
I could use some help with restoring MacOS on an old MacMini (2012). Right now it runs Elementary OS (Ubuntu based) and I want to reinstall MacOS.
I created 3 different boot sticks using 3 different methods (no second Mac at hand), but they do not show up in the boot manager (both build-in and Refind). Internet recovery won't work as well.
Anyone?

I got my new machine at work today, iMac Pro. Got to say the packaging is very fancy, very boutique.
Haven't really used it yet, tried airdrop to transfer files from a MacBook Pro 1 m away. Nope, they wouldn't find each other.
Any hints/tips/warnings regarding Linux dualboot?
