All set up and imaging in the observatory tonight, but also took the time to finally get out my later father's telescope. Bought at some point in the early 80's it sat in his loft for years until cancer finally took him nearly 5 years ago. It's been awesome to finally get my eye to the same eyepiece he did years ago, and check out Jupiter and it's moons 🔭🙂 #observing #astronomy #refractor

Car loaded with kit. Let’s see if I can get #c2022e3(ZTF) tonight by throwing a bit of #goto at it - or at least using my #telrad and a bit of dew heating. Might try my small@#refractor first… if no success then see if the #c8edge will do anything… #astrodon #astronomy #telescope #comet

Well, given that my local weather is not cooperating, I can share a pic of my scope then. This is a #refractor, and uses lens in the front to gather light, as opposed to mirrors. It’s kinda short as well for its size, so in practice that means that it’s more suited for wide field observing.
After a think while I was working today I decided to hedge my bets a little and go for a pair of telescopes. A 102mm refractor and a 127mm mak.
Given the breeze, moonlight, possible cloud later on I decided it wasn't a big Dob night.
#Refractor will be great for double stars and clusters and the #Mak will be good for #planets and the #moon

@Paul_Hill what #refractor have you got? I’ve got a small WO66mm which is great for wide field visual - but would love something larger with a longer FL…
At this stage it is carry on regardless. There seems to be plenty of observing time, but it will mean careful selection of a few good targets, fewer than intended. Over the day I will have a ponder about what I really want to have a look at & focus on.
So next stop will be later this afternoon when the #telescope comes out & I get everything aligned, collimated etc
#Refractor or #reflector? The conditions are suggesting to me I'll have more luck with glass but we'll see later on.
