I’ve spent the past 2 years listening to human and more-than-humans across Regional NSW as a commissioned artist on the NSW Regional Futures project. My focus has been the transition to renewable energy. That work is now being presented alongside the work of other Regional Futures artists at Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre in Western Sydney. The centrepiece of my work is a 15-minute multitrack soundscape composition (no spoken words) made from my field recordings. There is a sound sculpture with this as well that reduces the sound into four frequencies that vibrate through 3D printed hand pads. Then there’s a montage of 18 human stories from the regions sharing thoughts of the future, and a poem on the wall - my own thoughts about the future.

On 22 July, I’m on a panel at the Regional Futures Symposium at Casula on the topic of Listening Better. It’s such a rare opportunity to bring the issues of Regional Australia to the city and invite communities to engage with you there.

Tonight I’m MC-ing a regional journalism awards ceremony. And I am very *excited* because
a) regional and local journalism is bloody important
b) regional journalism gets overlooked for industry awards like the Walkleys
c) I bought a frock for the first time in … lots of years
Sure, they are internal awards. But I get to help celebrate the work of people who keep their communities informed every day.

Please join me Wednesday evening 6.30-8pm AEDT as I chat with Judy Horacek (AMAZING feminist cartoonist), Greg James (the first Indigenous Councillor for the Greater Shepparton Council) and Ali Thwaites (educator and youth activist) as we chat about CONTRIBUTION.
How to we value it? What infrastructure do we need to enable people to contribute and to recognise that contribution looks very very different depending on context.
There will be time for questions!

My #Introduction post.
These are a few of my favourite things! I spend a lot of time transporting kids to sports, and volunteering at these sports, organising though, not coaching! Love reading, aim to read 50 books each year. I get a lot of satisfaction from volunteering locally and working on regional agricultural statistics. We have travelled a lot through WA and love finding new places off the beaten track to explore. We still discover new places within 200km radius of Esperance!
