i migrated to the fediverse from tumblr, and have stuck around ever since!

i'm 34, use she/her pronouns, and am one of the few token cishets around here lol. i'm white to the point where i think green fluff and ham salad are valid foodstuffs to put in your mouth and eat. despite these things, i try my best to not be shitty, and am thankful to many people on mastodon trusting in me enough to help me learn! i'm christian so expect some occasional christianposting; i'm also southern and am a bit defensive about the good parts of this culture (aka: the parts we stole from the slaves. sorry folks y'all know i'm right, let's go burn some confederate flags)

i'm a disabled spoonie who deals with chronic illnesses, especially chronic pain. i did become a cyborg though about half of it, which is pretty fuckin rad if i do say so and i highly recommend that! i am also not neurotypical, which interacts with all of this, especially with things like the pain-induced ADHD.

because of the aforementioned disabilities and brainweirds, my brain is usually in some type of scramble. i try to tw/cw for stuff as i can, but i also admit that sometimes i miss stuff. similarly, i usually don't caption my images because of pure conflicting needs.

i have a puppy named Holly who is EXTREMELY GOOD, and pictures of her go in the #hollypls tag! i also sometimes try to do an art and only remember to tag it half the time with #oopsiarted , but it is far more rare whoops.

one of my main hobbies is also #lolitafashion , which i do not wear often due to health reasons but i am in love with anyway! (NO, NOT THE FETISH. please don't darken my door with that evil, leave me to my rufflepile in peace) i'm a big advocate for plus-sized and disabled lolitas, and my tastes lean more towards classic though really it's "whatever i can get" LOL! i plan to continue chronicling my journey - slowly - at sweetdisabled.com .

i am also, nominally, a furry. my fursonas include a black bear with purple-lightning claws, and an opal carbuncle (ffxiv style!).

other than that, i play a lot of computer games and games on my switch!

it's been a while since my last introduction post, and i figure the new wave would be a good time to re-up my introduction post

i'm cyrene savage, i've been on the fediverse for a few years now, opening my first account in early 2018, and eventually spinning up my own instance a couple years ago. i've been active the whole time on the fediverse, with mains on mastodon.social, then radical.town, and finally this instance.

most of my content is shitposting, especially dick jokes. if you're uncomfortable with un-cwed mentions of genitals or other sex jokes, be aware there's a lot of that here. i also do not accept follow requests from minors primarily for this reason. should i post pictures containing nudity, those will be cwed. sometimes i post about media or games i'm interested in at the moment, including the books i'm reading. occasionally i'll post about the news or politics, generally also un-cwed. i am a communist, and generally if i post analysis i intend for it to be through a marxist or communistic lens.

i also enjoy cooking and beer, generally photos of food will be cwed but talking about food won't be. alcohol and other drugs will always be cwed.

follow requests are welcome but i don't accept them immediately. usually i wait a while and go through requests in batches. i usually only interact with a core group of people, so do not expect a follow request will be responded to at all. there's a small amount of additional information in my bio, but otherwise i prefer people to get to know me by interacting with me. see you around!

My background is, of course, in cybersecurity. I have a bit over a decade of experience in infosec in general, with the vast majority of that spent on the blue team, and in private sector, but with a little bit of time on the red team in the intel community.

My specialization is network security monitoring. Some call it NIDS, some call it DPI, some call it IDS/IPS, a few call it NGFW and NGIPS to sound sophisticated, but I stare at pcaps, do pattern recognition, and write signatures or rules for Snort and Suricata to detect anomalous traffic that repeat unique patterns. That's my job in a nutshell.

IDS/IPS work requires a broad understanding of network protocols, and sometimes, some guesswork and a lot of sandbox runs when you're encountering C2 traffic to figure out the constants and variables.

I also wrote a book on creating virtual machine labs for learning IT and infosec concepts. I'm not gonna tell you to buy my shit, especially when you can get it for free if you really want it. Check out the other pinned toot for details.

In my spare time, I like to be a part of the life of my wife who is a first-grade teacher, and my two beautiful and very happy bassett hounds. I also play a lot of video games (I enjoy rogue-likes, rogue-lites, turn-based strategy, RPGs, and generally most indie titles), red a lot of manga, and watch a lot of anime (My favorite genre/trope is typically isekai. I love escapism, made rises to power, and seeing how creative storytellers get with the mechanics of the world that they just dropped someone into who is over or underpowered as hell). I grew up in MI, left, and came back. Its very likely I'll die here. I love this place, especially the northern parts of the state, and one day dream of owning land or maybe even a very modest vacation home somewhere in the north reaches. Maybe someday, but I digress.

I have a reputation for being a prolific shitposter, but generally that's because life is way too fucking short to take seriously. Some people got a laugh out of it, some didn't. If I'm too high volume, I apologize. I won't be offended if you unfollow, block, mute, whatever. You do what you have to.

In spite of all the noise, I'm somewhat enthusiastic about security and NSM (network security monitoring) in general, and happy to answer questions if i can, and if I can't try to point you to better sources of information.
