I did *not* expect to find this at the flea market yesterday #rekkids #cratedigging
Still tweaking trade paperback designs for next year. Fairly settled on same design for title and credits, but different record designs for each.

Pretty good #cratedigging over the weekend, scored immaculate but extremely reasonably priced LPs of Orchestral Favorites and Studio Tan.
When I pulled the LPs out of their sleeves to examine them, I said to myself, "I know exactly the kind of Zappa fan who owned these" and my suspicions were confirmed at checkout; turns out they once belonged to a college buddy of the fifty-something shop owner, who was the type of guy who forbade anyone from so much as flipping his records over when a side finished playing.
Conspicuously absent was 'Sleep Dirt'; of that trilogy of albums, it's the one I would most like to own... there's a chance the shop owner still has it at home, which reminds me that I should email him #rekkids :zappaStache: :vinyl_record:
Early birthday present from my spouse!
I knew Erik Darling's fine banjo playing from the Kossoy Sisters' 'Bowling Green' LP (you've ever watched 'O Brother, Where Art Thou', you'd recognize the Kossoy sisters/Erik Darling's haunting version of "I'll Fly Away" as featured in the film itself. (The soundtrack album had a different version by Allison Krauss and Gillian Welch)
I was not familiar with Ed McCurdy. Based on the subject matter I was expecting a 'high lonesome' type voice, so his mellifluous baritone was a little bit jarring. #murderballads #oldtime #folk #folkscare #banjo #edmccurdy #erikdarling #nowplaying #rekkids #vinyl

Had one of those pleasant "I totally forgot I owned this" moments while browsing the shelf; I bought it right around the time my turntable began acting up and skipping if you so much as looked at it sideways, and I put it back on the shelf and there were a few months where I didn't spin *any* records.
The new rug I put down earlier this year seems to have taken care of that problem, and this plays and sounds great. A definite upgrade from the cassette I bought in May 1991, although I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't be tempted to buy the cheese yellow vinyl edition someday.
My gateway to Tom Waits.
I've bought everything thing Bob Mould has released since I discovered him in the early 1990s, but I somehow never picked up Patch the Sky when it came out; I was aware of it at the time but consciously put it off. I don't remember what exactly was going on in early 2016 (I know David Bowie's passing was part of it) but I remember I was just not feeling it, and in hindsight I think perhaps my subconscious was gently steering me away from developing downer memory associations with an album by one of my favorite artists.
I've somehow never heard a single track from this album.
Anyway, it's my birthday month and I decided this would be one of my small indulgences.
Very fine songwriting and performances by the trio as always, and I'm digging the slightly lighter touch after 'Beauty and Ruin' - I'll be curious to compare the digital tracks to the vinyl pressing; the vinyl sounds very loud/saturated overall, which was also a thing on 'Sunshine Rock', IIRC. #rekkids #bobmould

Huh, the "Let's spin vinyl" part of my brain woke up this afternoon #rekkids
