I just found a _very funky_ bespoke CPU system i hadn't come across before: Rekursiv. In the 1980s Linn, known for making HiFi turntables and so on, were evidently so ludicrously awash with cash that they funded the development of a new object oriented SmallTalk/Lisp-like programming language LINGO and CPU/Workstation to implement it on, with entirely reprogrammable VLIW microcode (kept in SRAM) and 40-bit disk-backed persistent identifiers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rekursiv
