Happy Birthday to African-American abolitionist Eliza Ann Gardner, born in New York City #OnThisDay in 1831. Gardner was one of the founders of the National Association of Colored Women's Clubs and founded the missionary society of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church (AMEZ) & advocated for women's equality in the church. An A.M.E. Zion Church in Springfield, Massachusetts is named in her honor.
