After a zillion emails with “hey check out this new feature!” I went back to have another look at #RemNote. Does anyone who uses it have any thoughts for better or worse on how it stacks up to other note taking apps? It’s one of those where you can use / to create a new block type within a note, like Logseq. I never got into that but then I never specifically tried to.
Now, SiYuan‘s backlinks UI lets you „step up“ the hierarchy, but now you have to "fold out" views in a way that doesn‘t have a list-wide shortcut or button to get an overview. That‘s a high friction killer.
Shame. I had seen SiYuan a bit further ahead - and I mean, in terms of database game they‘ll be up there with #RemNote and #Heptabase, now, and have a lowkey parity with #Tana. That‘s not nothing.
But it feels like a little less than they should have because of one bad UI choice.
@dja @pkm@a.gup.pe @ednico @pkm@chirp.social As a person who is *supposed* to be writing a lot of equations, this is a major pain point. I thought at least @rem_note #Remnote would have it since they are marketed to students.
Is there some software/design issue that makes it untenable? It is going to be very painful waiting until I have done my "work" before I can jump into my #pkm #tft and "take notes." In T-8 days, it's back to @goodnotesapp #GoodNotes 🙄 which will never be as exciting as @logseq or @obsidianmd .
For anyone asking why?
1. I value my notes being mine too much, which puts #tana out of contention.
2. I like writing in outline, but also in long form which puts #logseq out of the question.
There are also some other issues with Tana and Logseq that are for another day
3. I need my notes synced across my devices and want this to be secure, which puts #RemNote out of contention.
4. I need something reliable and quick.
Interesting time ahead.
I was toying with the idea of using #RoamResearch for my Third Brain (i.e. the information you collect that doesn't directly relate to you or any of your projects/areas).
Their subscription page had a scholarship code box on it, for a discount. I asked for a code only to find they've discontinued that programme. Just means I've been priced out of ever using that app again. 😥
Maybe #RemNote could be a good substitute for that? 🤔

With #RoamResearch being too expensive and #Notion having no end-to-end encryption, I've been looking for another app to serve as my online hub.
I have decided to give #RemNote another shot, to see if it'll fit the bill, as it's available on all of my devices. 🙂

I feel like there should be more #RemNote talk in the server, so here is a very sneak peek 🤫of the Database functionality. Still WIP but already mindblowing (and I am sure I am not even using it properly!
Hello everyone, let me briefly introduce myself. I'm a Computer Science graduate, planning to do a PhD in Bioinformatics this Fall, and I like to explore different #ToolsForThought.
Primarily I'm an #obsidian user, but I've also tried #logseq, #RemNote, #Notion, #Roam, etc. Currently, I'm exploring #Tana and #AnyType, and I'm quite excited about their potential once they're publicly released.
Looking forward to engaging with the #PKM community here and having some constructive discussions.

It blends hierarchy and graphs well, makes cross-linking easy, and the killer feature is an optional anki-like spaced repetition. So you can take notes on something and in the middle of them decide "ooh this is something I'd like to be reminded about, so I don't forget" and just add that inline.
The plugin ecosystem is young, though.
