[Workplace] social committee feels like the remote side of the workforce might be feeling left out. Company social events *do* happen but obv the remote sector isnt able to attend, or be part of office things. What kinds of things can be done for keeping us all feeling connected?

🤔🤔

Cool evolution to help foster using shared spaces that are already available, but often underused. Yay libraries!!

There's been a lot of buzz around AI but did you know that it stands upon an industry of exploitative labor? I had no idea. Low-skilled workers, many in countries with low wages, are hired to label the masses of data that gets fed into AI.

Thanks to my CIEP Cloud East editors' group for sharing this article.

I've happened on several articles recently that aim to convince readers that is not beneficial to the worker.

One article presented commutes as a time for reflection and solitude. Who doesn't need 3 hrs per day in fucking traffic? Another points out that miss out on office camaraderie. Puhleeze! I could go on.

Please tell me where an article exists that opines on corporations better controling staff when they are in the office? It's all about control!!

"Court decision comes as more companies install tracking software on workers' computers to detect keystrokes and clicks to ensure they focus on work-related tasks while doing their jobs remotely. Some critics say this kind of surveillance amounts to spying and infringes on employees' basic rights."

Ya, I would never even consider any job change that was NOT fully remote! Even for double the money.😂

Interesting article in NYT.

"American and Europeans are using Airbnb to find long-term rentals in Mexico’s capital, pushing housing costs higher and, critics say, forcing out local residents.

The Victoria building in Mexico City was sold to be converted into short-term rentals, displacing 25 Mexican families".

Are you feeling cold this Monday? Try lighting candles, wearing fingerless or keyboard-friendly gloves, and a cute pair of slippers.

Today I was given an at onsite EoY award ceremony for work.

I was stunned. I am a employee, in an organization with a diverse mix of remote (local) and remote employees. I'm non local to the area so never been able to attend happy hours or other small team/department events. As well as I have only recently been hired (around 6 months ago). So I wasn't expecting recognition of much.

I can't describe how much happiness it brought me not to get an award, but to be known that I am recognized and seen, even as a remote employee. I am so grateful for my current company and their super supportive culture.

My personal opinions'/takeaways:

, recognize good work. does go a very long way for some people mentally. And it doesn't need to be awards, but just letting people under you of all ranks know that they are appreciated goes a long way. Nobody is too anything for as long as their doing great work. It helps them feel seen, included, and appreciated.

(Especially )
Join meetings and turn your camera on especially if you're new. Only being 6 months since hired. I can't count how many people 'knew' me because there were a couple open lunches where I had my camera on and spoke or introduced myself. Flipside I didn't always recognize who they were though if their camera wasn't ever on.

I'm fortunate to have found this role and I'm grateful for the team members and managers I have.
