Michael Staniforth was a part of my childhood, playing the chirpy, creepy Timothy Claypole in the longrunning TV show #Rentaghost.
I also saw him on stage in A Chorus Line, when I was too young to understand it.
He was an out gay man.
He died of #AIDS in 1987, aged 44.

BBC4's reliance on pre-recorded continuity announcements is incredibly obvious when they use one before The Magic Roundabout and then the same one 5 minutes later before Rentaghost. "Remember this ... and its memorable theme tune?"

I met Edward Brayshaw (Mr Meaker) in the late 80s. He claimed that in series 1 the Meakers had a baby called Nigel who was turned into a pork chop and never mentioned again. If the cast wanted to annoy Bob Block in later years they would ask him "Whatever happened to Baby Nigel?"

This was almost true I discovered later - Nigel did exist, was turned into a dog although was turned back, but he did vanish!
