It's really the opposite of #rentier capitalism, surely: it is the principle that as much of the rent of the community as possible should flow to all equally rather and not be collected by the owners of capital.

Whaddyacallit 101 - create a border and rules for crossing it. Create a class of people whose livelihood and sense of worth depends on charging people to cross the border and a company with exclusive ferry rights to transport people (with money) across the border. @trinsec Yes, agreed. The problem is where even if they've done that, the CI has allowed them to join in with "normal" activities (eg. school) that are not accessible to them without being able to hear, then suddenly they lose access.

In most developed countries I imagine you barely notice - the healthcare system pays for the upgrade, a bit more money leeched from the government or the insurer, nobody notices or cares. But even there it's still a cost flowing to the device manufacturer for doing nothing. Pure #rentier capitalism.

As we wait for today's #inflation figures, we can expect #JeremyHunt & the #BankofEngland to tell us over the next few days, even if as expected the rate of inflation has started to decline, that #interestrates policy & Hunt's effective fiscal tightening (#austerity by another name) will need to continue as they are 'a price with paying' to push inflation down...

Of course, this is a price being paid by you & me, not Rishi, Jeremy & their chums... this is government for the #rentier elite!

The rent and occupancy of apartments is mostly decided by AI - and the algorithms essentially hack the supply-demand curves to generate optimal supply for maximizing demand (i.e., maximum profit for the rentiers). If you are being priced out of your apartment, your agency/landlord is probably using a similar tool.
