The cruelly tragic irony is pathetic.

#Mourning is hard, and is uncertain and is unsteady. To lose one's footing during the course of grief is to do the work of mourning.

Nor does #RentierSociety offer us adequate tools to do the work of mourning collectively—it instead being normative to shame the very act of mourning: as if an imposition on others.

If 2022 was the year we began to recognize that we were and needed to be in the process of mourning, let's make 2023 the year we develop & share tools for doing this work of mourning.

Near five decades in, only now catching glimmer of red flags heralding any given interlocutor's intransigence—as sufficient cause to leave them to their own straw-wrestling.

The trap of appealing to the reason of the doctrinaire is so very easy to fall into, despite every demonstration that adherence is not to be loosened by incision.

Such contentions careen, not accidentally, off wit's end.

Fetish of univocity affords prefab bastions of belonging, essential to #tensegrity of #RentierSociety.

Allowing ourselves the space to heal, to wholeheartedly grieve, is profoundly challenging—especially in a #RentierSociety that shames such work as an undue imposition on those around us—yet also profoundly illuminating as to the challenges of healing that those around us have yet to even contemplate, would indeed be ashamed to contemplate, for themselves.

@BobKerns Our #RentierSociety is one that has for generations allowed preventable deaths by influenza year after year, because despite what data surveillance was in place, it wasn't something we, as a society, were going to act upon.

That would have implicated the choices of those who didn't die of influenza, but merely participated in its spread, and we weren't gonna go there. The new situation only cast that #perquisitive silhouette in stark relief.
