#RepairCafes are great. My husband @Maker_of_Things and I volunteer at a few, fixing electrical, mechanical, furniture and sewing.

The idea mentioned sounds like it also includes odd jobs in the home, which can be difficult to get a tradesman to come an do.

@jameschip Good point. It only takes one missed generation for simple skills to acquire a sort of mythical difficulty.

I do sewing repairs at #RepairCafes, so I meet a lot of people (of various ages, I must say) who can't sew, and many of them regard it as an awesome skill. Whereas, I don't even remember learning it, because I picked it up from Mum as a kid. And I'm not even an amazing seamtress, I just know a few stitches, and how to apply them.

I currently organise #RepairCafes on the 3rd and 4th, but also help out at a new #RepairCafe on the 2nd. Much as I love them, I also want to do other things on Saturday's so I'm looking forward to having a deputy organiser available soon. 🙂

I've yet to hear of people doing mid-week, evening events. Do you know of any? Thinking of starting one of these here.

Another #RepairCafe done. A much more varied selection of items than usual, including three record decks, a 90s hifi, clock, thermometer, comptometer, Apple power supply, printer, keyboard, music box and radios. Fix rate seemed good, but I don't have the actual figures yet. #RepairCafes

I'm desperately trying to limit what I take to #RepairCafes whilst still having everything I need. Finding the balance is never ending.

@Maker_of_Things Yes, I run two #RepairCafes and a lack of parts is a big problem. But I'd say a worse problem is the design of electrical items that prevents #repair. Steam irons are the worst.
