My point? I've stopped buying things and rather repair or upgrade them myself. So before you'd simply replace your gear by buying new items, consider repairing them instead.

It's not only environmentally responsible 🍃 but it comes with a great sense of achievement 💪🏻, it feels really good.

Not to mention that you'll likely save money on it too… 💰

A few years ago I bought an iRig BlueBoard Bluetooth MIDI switch. The listing on ebay from the official IK Multimedia page said it was "open box", but it turned out to be pretty worn unit with a dead C button backlight 😳

Back in a day I was pretty bad at soldering, though I ordered a few sets of replacement #SMD LEDs from AliExpress and fixed that dead one. Despite all my attempts I still failed to find an exact color match, so today, since I had time and there was no blackout, I decided to replace the rest. I did loose two replacement LEDs before I figured a quick way to solder new ones in place, but it turned out pretty well and I guess that is the only way to learn 🙌

Successfully done my first ever #repair of an approximately 5 years old #Apple #Lightning to #USB cable.
Just trimmed a part where the isolation went off and soldered a new connector in place 🙌

Was my first experience dealing with such small contact points, turned out pretty well 👍

My precious Galaxy S3 running LineageOS was yesterday submerged in liquid soap (don't ask) and stopped working. Today, after a teardown, clean and reassembly it's back in action. #RepairCulture #RightToRepair

I made a nice pieced patch for this worn out reusable grocery bag, and sewed it on and reinforced it with some #quilting. On the side of the bag without holes 🤦

I guess it’s just getting extra decoration.

Was a great evening! I had the pleasure to ask questions to @walskaar @lidia_p @fcr and Niek. We talked about the purpose and process behind the publication, the post-digital ambivalence of engaging with so-called retro and low-tech media/tech/practices that are in fact inextricable from contemporary tech/networks, the question of resistance and escapism in such practices, the creative potential of technological constraints and only working with what you have access to, and we started to sketch a discussion around nostalgia and its problematic ties with notions of traditions, imagined communities, nationalism, etc. It was way too short but really demonstrated the value of all the interviews that @floppytotaal arranged in this book.

The digital fair repair act is making progress in NY state.

"TITLE OF BILL:

An act to amend the general business law, in relation to the sale of digital electronic equipment and providing diagnostic and repair information.

PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:

This bill require original equipment manufacturers (OEM) to make diagnostic and repair information for digital electronic parts and equipment available to independent repair providers and consumers if such parts and repair information are also available to OEM authorized repair providers."
