A few years ago I bought an iRig BlueBoard Bluetooth MIDI switch. The listing on ebay from the official IK Multimedia page said it was "open box", but it turned out to be pretty worn unit with a dead C button backlight 😳
Back in a day I was pretty bad at soldering, though I ordered a few sets of replacement #SMD LEDs from AliExpress and fixed that dead one. Despite all my attempts I still failed to find an exact color match, so today, since I had time and there was no blackout, I decided to replace the rest. I did loose two replacement LEDs before I figured a quick way to solder new ones in place, but it turned out pretty well and I guess that is the only way to learn 🙌

Successfully done my first ever #repair of an approximately 5 years old #Apple #Lightning to #USB cable.
Just trimmed a part where the isolation went off and soldered a new connector in place 🙌
Was my first experience dealing with such small contact points, turned out pretty well 👍

The #repairproject is going... Poorly. I just contacted a charity which distributes laptops to see if I could donate my machines, and they didn't want any.
The reason is simple: the people who don't have ready access to computers aren't particularly computer literate, and the literacy they do have is Windows-based, so the machines need to be able to run at least Windows 10.
I think I understand, but I don't know enough to disagree. Maybe it's "computer as a multitool" vs. "computer as hammer".
Managed to finish up surgery on the 1001PXD for my #repairproject.
The good: it went without a hitch.
The bad: I expected this, but it doesn't make that much of a difference. Trying to run a modern browser or a Discord client still slams the poor wee thing.
Made a post on my 'family & friends' social media about my #repairproject and people reacted surprisingly negatively to being promised free computers.
I think a big factor is that the netbook seems unusable, even though it's important to keep using it. The reasoning is rough but simple: replacing it would generate a lot of emissions, so I want it to last longer as a productive tool to help offset the emissions that would be generated by its non-existant replacement.
Can't sleep so I'm being useful. This is my personal ASUS Eee PC 1001PXD, bought especially because it could snugly fit into my purse.
I thought it would make for a great introduction to my #repairproject but I clearly haven't been keeping up with OS trends: Ubuntu, Arch and Slackware are no longer offering 32-bit versions in their updates, and I didn't want to install an EOL LTS.
I have to say #antiX came through for me in a big way. It's just humming along in the 1GB of RAM. ✨🌟
