So living on a small #mastodon #instance is challenging. The disconnect from other users' #replies and #profile content off-instance is real. Example: You see an interesting #post, you click on it, and there's no replies. But you click the '...' and 'open original page' and it has 300 replies! Why? Because Mastodon *still* hasn't imagined a good way to solve gathering those posts.

But that doesn't help you, so to hell with Mastodon, time for #mods. Here's 3 tools you'll want to look at.

I tried #FediFetcher by @michael; it does what #mastodon is supposed to do: Downloads external post #replies & fills in your #instance making it look/act like real social media. Unsuprisingly this hits like a train, populating everything from users' home feeds ad infinitum.

This is FINE for the most part. I'd *prefer* fetch-on-demand: a user clicks a post & FediFetcher pulls and shows, but likely Mastodon needs to implement that. FediFetcher works, more than I can say of Mastodon. I'll keep it.

Okay imo a huge advantage of #Calckey is, that #replies of the people you follow also show up in the home feed which - at least on my TL - leads to me discovering more cool people and #interacting more with them 👀

@eWalthert The count on the instance where the post originated includes all faves and reposts (including those from typo.social), if I understand this correctly.

I don’t know what determines the visibility of public/unlisted #replies, though. Viewed via another instance, some are accessible below the post, some are not.

a post the person doesn't know what post you are replying to, right?

I wonder how ppl with thousands of followers here manage to stay sane & keep up; I can barely manage to keep up with replies as is.🤣 Thus far, I haven't yet cloned myself or hired an octopus as my virtual assistant.😉 And it's not like I'm going to farm out replies to a chatbot since we all KNOW what trouble they can wreak. Here is some further discussion related to the issue of #replies on #Mastodon. This is a major problem, and I’m not comfortable promoting the service unless this is resolved. As a recap: if you look at the replies of a post, chances are you are only seeing some of them. Particularly on a small instance where it might only be a fraction of the discussion.

I don’t think a ‘Load All’ is the right solution either. This should require no extra effort.

The quality of content has either suddenly gone up by #tooters here, or maybe it is because I turned off #boosts & #replies

Switching off #boost & #replies in my #home feed has improved my experience as I can see alot of #content from the actual #people I follow.
