#ReportersWithoutBorders has released the 2023 World #PressFreedom Index with the subtitle "journalism threatened by fake content industry": https://rsf.org/en/2023-world-press-freedom-index-journalism-threatened-fake-content-industry

The #Philippines 🇵🇭 jumped up 15 places to 132nd out of 180 countries and slightly improved its score from 41.84 to 46.21 mostly due to increases in the economic and security indicators. There were very small decreases in the remaining 3 indicators: political, legislative, and social.

The United States fell three spots, to 45th, in the global study.

"According to the 2023 World Press Freedom Index the situation is “very serious” in 31 countries, “difficult” in 42, “problematic” in 55, and “good” or “satisfactory” in 52 countries. In other words, the environment for journalism is “bad” in seven out of ten countries, and satisfactory in only three out of ten."

Broadband TV News - Eutelsat issues statement on banned Russian channels

Satellite operators run into regulatory problems caused by the #RussianInvasionInUkraine. They had contractual obligations to carry propaganda carrying Russian channels, but came under pressure to stop distributing them via satellites. #SES stopped doing it in March, #Eutelsat has only now reluctantly caved into pressure, following a suit by #ReportersWithoutBorders

Let me try a proper intro post!

I’m a human rights campaigner who has worked heavily in #freedomofexpression. For the past six years I’ve been at #ReportersWithoutBorders, where I opened and ran the UK bureau, but am now responsible for operations and campaigns, based in Paris (but splitting my time with London).

I’m still on rebecca_vincent in the other place, but so far loving the positive vibes here. Looking to follow interesting folks in #journalism, #pressfreedom and #humanrights!
