Just a heads up about this recently published paper: 'Toward a definition of digital object '. The work contributes some excellent intellectual framing for 'reuse', what constitutes 'reuse', and helps us contemplate how we might better measure it! Some nice conceptual work here by Liz, Ali, and their colleagues. Tres bon! 👍

Currently speeding down the West Coast Main Line to sunny , and finishing my slides as I enjoy views of the Lake District. kicks off tomorrow. It's going to be scorching over the next couple of days so I hope the conference venue has air conditioning! 😃

Kudos to the Working Group at for its strong recommendations, including a policy.

At p. 5: "Concordia should…further the development of copyright support through an institutionally supported
rights retention strategy, which can support green open access and diversify how
research can be made openly accessible."

New study: In German , the factor most affecting the growth of is "disciplinary profile". & services "turned out to be non-significant."

"[Our analysis] hints that the original function of institutional repositories, offering a channel for secondary publishing is vanishing, while a new function of aggregation of metadata & full texts is becoming of increasing importance."

Software like, , is part of “a general trend of deskilling library staff, leaving them only with ‘softer’ skills. … [B]y making data management ‘cheap’ in terms of funding and staff required ... [these] platforms place [repository management] at the bottom of budget priorities. Making the scarcity of resources more manageable transforms a situation of precarity into a normal state of functioning.”

@Samuelmoore I don’t think it’s unrealistic but it clearly depends on a lot of factors. A year ago I tried to estimate the “cost” per preprint on the arXiv and it was of order $100 per post mainly in staff costs. It is probably better to think of marginal costs if you already have an institutional repository with support in which case it could be almost nothing. Certainly much lower than typical APCs

Nerd, sozusagen Laiin-Nerd 😄)

New study: "About half of all preliminary behavioral interventions go unpublished, and those appearing in the published literature are not functionally different than those that go unpublished. Researchers conducting preliminary behavioral interventions should consider sharing unpublished findings on open-source platforms to maximize the fields’ ability to learn from their work."
