FYI I have #migrated my account from mastodon.lol to mastodon.boston due to people harassing @nathan into shutting it down. #Mastodon doesn't let me move all my posts over yet, but I'll be #reposting my important stuff over the next few weeks.

I confess to feeling a need to #apologise if someone expresses an issue with something I write.

I find it infinitely more personally #enabling to edit or remove a post which has got up someone's nose rather than contact the mods on my instance and say please explain its removal.

I put a link to a #GoFundMe in running in a post the other day seeking support for my mental health managing work with #macropods only to them find some random woman had reported it as spam. I hope she's blocked me now because as interesting as her stuff was, I'm better off without people who see the entirety of #Mastodon as their place to express their views of the issue of the day and occasionally post something of her own, but very rarely.

Worst part was her predilection for #reposting shit from #twatter no matter how many times people say not to. I'm starting to block anyone doing that.

OK, checking out Mastadon, not promising I'll stay. Those who know me (most of, yet to find me here) will know I left Facebook a few months ago, downloaded my data then destroyed my account, so I'm a bit sus on centralised socials generally. Here's my take on Mastadon...

Good things
protocol based, meaning it's open (potentially) to third party apps; open sourced and community driven; federated decentralisation

Things that are no better than any other client/server network
Still client/server, socials should grow from the individual to their network, peer-to-peer, a mastadon instance falling into the hands of a capricious "Madmin" is just as likely as with a centralised corporate silo, but is less damaging to the community; I have heard that admins can read direct messages of users, can't confirm this from a technical source, if true, I'm gone gone gone on the redeye express.

What I'm looking for in a social timeline
peer-to-peer, true peer-to-peer (NO CENTRALISED SERVER);
protocol based (XMPP is an awesome candidate);
end-to-end encrypted;
open source code, one-off paid binaries (no subscriptions)

No content warning on this because I don't have the resources to build my ideal app, so I want all the eyes I can get seeing this. I'm giving the idea to the world because it's what the internet was designed to be, peer-to-peer, not client server. Please share widely.

I expect some complaints about 'loosing' tips to re-posters. After all, my contribution was the word "Cute" as a comment on top of the original cat theme. I am quite surprised that up to now nobody among the many people coming to the #Fediverse from #Twitter has developed a script or a tool that automates periodic self #boosting and re-boosting of one’s own posts, to increase #visibility and #discoverability.

I would love to have it, but I must admit my timeline would become absolute hell.

Props to @cquest whom I contacted about his
@libe #newsbot. He now tweaked all his bots to ensure the posts are #unlisted rather than #public. The final frontier is #cw. I am wary any automation of #cw would be complicated, maybe needing to resort to #ai. But I would also challenge: is having a traditional #media #reposting bot wanted on #mastodon? I think that #publishers must be responsible for their content & learn to create bespoke content for each platform (here ain't #birdsite)
