Was pricing out some parts for my next #reprap build of a 3d printer and saw some neat stuff.

Really good Omron endstops that are sealed and don't have wiring issues are much cheaper than the BS boards we usually get, and Igus type T linear rails are cheaper than Hiwins now, have the same hole pattern, and are so much nicer to live with

Every 6 months I have something to print... I bring the (more than) ten years old #RepRap from the basement, add a drop of oil on the axes, hit print, and it works :) (rest of the time I go to the FabLab) #3dprinting

Still doing stuff with design for a new printer, been busy with day job for much bigger robots so delayed 😔

Was able to figure out the necessary math for my new #deltaprinter design so you put in plate diameter in the fctsd file and it will tell you how long the lateral beams and arms you need to cut for the build, as well as making the shape files for frame and enclosure. Won't need an external calculator program

And it will work in regular freecad .21

Starting seeing Bondtech LGX upgrade gears and clone LGX gears hit the market, I am interested in adapting the Ascender extruder for delta printers to use an LGX gear. That worm gear thing is perfect for my usecase

Almost #mrrf2023 time and new printer almost ready.

Just need to load Klipper and get config file loaded. Everything mechanically is in, wires routed and cleaned up, etc!

A couple of weeks ago I saw a Velleman K8600 3D printer kit on sale at a local electronics store for less than €70. Bargain!

It took just a few hours to assemble, but unfortunately I lost one of the 2 mm grub screws.

I then spent a couple of days intermittently crawling around on the floor with a magnet and a brush and found nothing :-(

When I told the nice people at Velleman about this they said they'd send me a couple of extras for free. These took a little while to arrive, and then I had a couple of busy days, so it wasn't until today that I tightened up that last grub screw and got the thing working. It took almost not effort at all to set it up and start something printing.

My other 3D printer is a reprap built in 2014. That took a lot more effort to get going but it still works well. I just thought this might be more convenient for making small things.

@slgr Poking around the web, it looks like a lot of the energy from the #RepRap project has been absorbed into Prusa i3 development and improvement. I don’t know much about how the 3D printing landscape has changed over the past 10-ish years. I think I might start printing these at the library: https://www.printables.com/model/57217-i3-mk3s-printable-parts/files

My neighborhood branch of the public library just got a #3DPrinter and I’m wondering: who has experience building a #RepRap? I think it would be neat to use the neighborhood printer to build another one.

When I started #RepRap I thought it would lead to the #3Dprinting of a much wider range of materials. I hadn't expected the success of using clay, pioneered by @UnfoldOffice.
