Wrapping up a busy week at the office. What exists now on Friday that didn't on Monday:

* Cordova library that allows hybrid JS mobile apps to use NFC to scan specially-equipped pill bottles to track medication adherence.

* A new French contractor onboarded to a busy client project.

* Early versions of a new open-source package to help researchers build voice-based user interfaces on Amazon's Alexa platform.

Budget anxiety arises when you worry about what you can't see (going on in your account). Matt Vaughn has a fix: make it visible and send alerts (to *your phone* and Slack channels) if *anything* goes bump in the night. SRSLY usefu and worth doing right away. day1hpc.com/post/sending-budge

If you ever want to give your research software developer a small heart attack, tell them that the system that you thought was collecting data for months, isn't.

(The data was there, just not where the researcher was looking fortunately.)

Rather proud of the code that I got running today, but there's a significant non-zero chance that the owner of the walled-garden in which we're distributing will allow it through their channels to our study participants.

I'm not doing something nefarious (it's a project under the governance of a university IRB), but the walled-garden owner may not like the data we're collecting, even if we completely disclose it to the listing site and our users. (Which we do.)
