I've been playing around a lot with RO-Crate lately. It's a way of describing & packaging research data. Here's a post about how I've updated the Newspaper & Gazette Harvester to automatically document every harvest it creates using RO-Crate: updates.timsherratt.org/2023/0

Today I've been working on generating RO-Crate metadata for all the repositories. Down the track this means details of all the notebooks, datasets etc could be harvested into another platform. I'm also working on updating the Newspaper Harvester so that it describes each harvest you create using RO-Crate.

More on RO-Crate here: researchobject.org/ro-crate/

This is part of the work I'm doing for tha ARDC's HASS Community Data Lab.

Yay! The ARDC's service is live! Researchers in Australian universities can now spin up repositories in locally-based virtual machines. ardc.edu.au/services/ardc-nect πŸŽ‰

I'll be adding buttons & links from the to use the ARDC Binder service – just waiting for a problem with Trove to be fixed by the NLA.

Excellent piece from @mikejones and @bestqualitycrab for @theconversationau covering the funding issue with at the National Library of Australia (who I don't think are on Mastodon).

Trove is an , which I've demo'd before at places like VALA, which makes the NLA's collections easily query-able.

Trove is for , , , and other activities.

And it's invisible. Which means it doesn't attract the funding or attention it deserves. Trove archives over 6 billion digital items. Items which speak to Australia's .

If Trove were a supercomputer, it would be funded. If our digitalhumanities were as sexy as , Trove would be funded. But they're the same type of thing - digital that helps research. Trove is . And we should fund it properly.

@rupdecat I agree. It "trickles up" also because we rarely see disabled students and researchers. The discussion about or is very new.
