Has anyone of you done a performance comparison between Restic with SFTP backend and S3 backend?

My _guess_ would be that S3 is significantly faster.... :thaenkin:

I just realized, the password database in my remote backups is triple-encrypted. First by #KeepassXC, then by #restic, and then by the silly AWS S3 automatic server-side encryption. Hard to get more encrypted than that!

How do you personally handle your backups? How often do you test them?

I personally use a combination of syncthing & restic. I cold store my backups in a safe deposit box (data in the GB). Data is not particularly sensitive, but useful to me.

I just find my process a little tedious and I'd like a better pruning / testing routine. I also wish I had a medium I trusted more, but LTO is expensive / space consuming.

I released a new version of my restic wrapper bashtic recently. It's similar to autorestic but gives you the full mad power of #bash in your backup workflows.

Anyway the primary new feature in v0.0.2 is support for system-wide custom pipelines by dropping config into /etc/xdg/bashtic.

Dennoch freu ich mich, dass das Projekt Beachtung findet. Ich bin ein begeisterter Nutzer, seit ich vor ca. 4 Jahren darauf aufmerksam geworden bin.
Meiner Meinung nach lässt sich ein Backup mit dem Tool sehr simpel aufsetzen. Da es in Go geschrieben ist, läuft es auf jedem OS.

Restic backups for the homelab to Wasabi S3 are 99% complete at this point - everything managed by Ansible, but not scheduled as of yet (too many dependencies on Vault for secrets management).

I need to tweak some of the cleanup/pruning, and include a few more directories for some of my vms, but I'm happy with where I'm at so far.

Offsite backups give me some warm and fuzzies in case of catastrophic failure.

Jetzt bin ich bei #Restic (zur Sicherung von @yunohost) angekommen. Das scheint tatsächlich zu tun, ohne dass man durch 17 brennende Reifen springen muss.

I also use B2 with #restic for /home, configs and some container data. More expensive and a bigger foot gun than their opaque, automated personal offering, but transparent and customizable, which helps when you have a slow uplink and lots of data with differing #backup priorities/schedules.

2-3 times a year I encrypt the most valuable of my more static data onto external drives, and rotate them off to the same storage facility that currently keep our winter clothes and christmas decorations.

That's a bad situation! I feared such situation and made in oneway android -> linux
And on my linux machine I move the files to the desired folder an create a backup (if desired) with #restic

Au niveau ligne de commande je crois que ça se rapproche de #restic ou #borg
J'ai pas encore trop pousser les tests mais l'interface graphique est chouette.
Ça propose du sftp ou #rclone ou encore leur propre système de backup

Je rêve d'une intégration de la partie serveur dans #yunohost 😇

Il faut que je m'y remette à le tester mais pas trop de temps en ce moment 😅
