A new on metadata analysis and content analysis of retraction notices in the arts and humanities:

👉 arxiv.org/abs/2308.13573

The authors write that "many notices are neither identifiable nor findable". It's good that this is being talked about loudly - we need science we can trust.

Just realized that the score of a paper keeps on going up when people/journalists tweet/write about its :blobfacepalm:

A concerning post-publication exercise (which led the original flawed publication to ) on how easy is for our "intuition" of to deceive ourselves and others.

Here, "others" seem to include editors and some reviewers (whose expertise maybe was not directly in modelling) of a respected journal. Besides readers who also cited the flawed work and propagated the flaw.

@CaulfieldTim ...by the way, the DOI of the has *not* been activated, although the retraction dates back from 12th May.
And Scholar is unaware of the retraction.
...not a conspiracy, but quite likely a limited willingness to advertise retractions in general.

Often referenced "masks do harm" study retracted.

See: frontiersin.org/articles/10.33

Editors: "...complaints were valid ... the article does not meet the standards of editorial & scientific soundness..."

Will likely live on as a zombie & the retraction will become part of a conspiracy narrative.

BMC Infectious Diseases has retracted the garbage-tier paper that claimed the COVID-19 vaccines might have killed over 250,000 people in the United States.

Post-publication review found that there was no attempt to validate survey-reported fatality data and that the methodology was inappropriate for proving causal inference of mortality. The paper also falsely claimed that the study had IRB approval when in reality it was exempt from such oversight.

The recommendations for reducing the inadvertent spread of retracted science:

:doi: doi.org/10.1186/s41073-022-001

It will be interesting to see if these recommendations have had any positive effect on reducing the citation of retracted papers in the future.

A tale of scientific misconduct from the team at Retractable Watch. A University of Sydney scientist seems to badly fake an image in a paper, and the coauthor seems not to notice. Hmm..
