Found a box of vintage Osram magicube flash cubes. These were mounted on a
rotating X-mount on top of the camera. Each side was good for one flash = one picture. These cubes have no battery and do not require any electrical power. The camera shutter is triggering a spring mechanism which is igniting a zirconium foil. The cube is then rotated 90° via film advance mechanism. Zirconium is also used for nuclear reactor cladding and space vehicles.
