From the previous post you might ask, what has photosynthesis got to do with retrograde time travel?

Photosynthesis was used to demonstrate that the conversion of a specific atom in one molecule (Oxygen atom in H2O) can be reprocessed with the same atom incorporated into another molecule (one of the Oxygen atoms in O2) after an elapsed time period

Further, this same oxygen molecule could then be inhaled by a human with the oxygen atom reprocessed again and incorporated into water during metabolism. Let’s say this water molecule is now in the bladder as the individual jumps into a time machine

If retrograde time travel were possible all atoms comprising the individual would need to be taken to the past. Let’s say you want to go back in time to when the oxygen atom was in groundwater, before absorption by the trees root. The same oxygen atom would need to be in both the groundwater molecule and the bladder water molecule at the same time

The same atom cannot be in two different places simultaneously! If so, at what point was the atom duplicated? The impediment to going back in time is the inability to duplicate atoms. New atoms cannot be created out of nothing, therefore there is a particle duplication restriction (PDR)

What does the previous post have to do with retrograde time travel?

Simply to demonstrate that during the process of photosynthesis specific oxygen atoms in a water molecule are incorporated over time into specific oxygen molecules

That is to say, specific atoms in a molecule (an Oxygen atom in O2) cannot also be a part of a precursor molecule (the same Oxygen atom in H2O) at the same time that would be required during retrograde time travel

Similarly, an oxygen atom breathed in cannot be the same oxygen atom in an excreted water molecule simultaneously. Hence, going back in time would require two copies of every atom so that two identical bodies exist at the same time

Quite interesting coverage of paradox types created by time travel. However, each paradox arises only if retrograde time travel were possible, which it is not for macroscopic particles. The mere fact that particles would need to be duplicated first, for any travel back in time to be able to occur, renders it impossible

@DawnRoseTurner @ScienceAlert trouble is, retrograde time travel is not possible for macroscopic particles. This will always be the case until a method of creating matter from energy occurs - I don’t think so, this has happened once only that we’re aware of - at the time of the Big Bang 💥

To the contrary, I believe paradox are averted as retrograde time travel for macroscopic particles is not possible. There is a fundamental difference between traveling forward in time vs retrograde time travel. Particles do not need to be duplicated to travel forward in time whereas they would to go back in time

Einstein theorised that forward time travel is possible and this has since been proven experimentally. In contrast, retrograde time travel has not been shown for macroscopic particles. The reason is what I call Particle Duplication Restriction (PDR)

Think of a jigsaw puzzle with all pieces lying spread out on the floor. I complete the puzzle in 5h, frame it, and hang it in my time machine. If it were possible to go back in time, say 5h, the puzzle pieces that make up the completed puzzle (in my time machine) must be the same puzzle pieces lying spread out on the floor before I started the puzzle. However, you cannot have the same puzzle pieces in two places at the same time. At what point were the atoms in each puzzle piece duplicated?

The moment one tries to go back in time every atom in both the time machine and its contents would need to be duplicated. No known process could duplicate one atom, let alone billions, hence PDR
