Lite mer nördsnack. När man körde en webbserver på klassiska MacOS (innan OS X), så var det WebStar och Tenon MachTen som gällde i produktion. WebStar var löjligt säker (baserades inte på andra servrar). MacTen var däremot stabilare. MachTen var ett helt BSD-system (baserad på v4.4 med machkernel) som kördes som ett program (som VM). Hade X (med AfterStep). Oftast körde man Apache.

Just as I was going to bed, my youngest cried victory! He figured out how to change to change the root password in the shell and was able to login als the sysadmin. Now we know the specs; It's a 700 MHz G4 with 1gb of ram, running os x 10.4
€24,50 well spent I think, he learned more about the comand line then I could ever teach him.

It's a school holiday. I had to drag my youngest outside 'cause of sunshine and not being outside for three days.
We cycled to some thriftstores. Just when I thought, the total score was some good welding gloves...
He found an eMac. Working. Insisted to take it home on his bike. It was way to heavy and he dropped it only once 🤦🏻‍♀️
It still works and now we have to crack the password of "Anna Groenhuysen".

Almost nobody knows that I was an editor at MacUser magazine. That's because I got hired just about 4 months before the merger between Ziff-Davis' #MacUser and IDG's #MacWorld.

I ended up bouncing to PC World, where I stayed for a decade.

I was hired because I was an inveterate Mac tinkerer, while just a novice editor. So imagine my surprise as I discovered a feature I've never seen before in a Mac system.

I knew the (OS 8.1) system's text editor, SimpleText, had text-to-speech tools built right into the front end. What I didn't know is that, among the range of voices you can choose to read aloud whatever is in the text editor, is a voice called Pipe Organ that literally sings whatever text is in the document in a style I can only describe as 60s-robotic-Gregorian Chant.

And the best part? The tune the voice kind of sings along with is March of the Marionette, otherwise known as the theme song from the TV series Alfred Hitchcock Presents.

You have *not* experienced "new features" documentation about software until you've had it sung to you by a mournful robot with a Hitchcock fetish.

The cables where laying next to it on the shelf. I thought they where Kardan/Harmon glas speaker cables but actually not sure now. Labeled midi in/out and digital in/out.
And a Minolta Disc-7 in it's case. Never heard of the photodisc cassette before. It makes the Video 2000 video format feel current :) But the first camera to include a selfie stick and portrait mode. And al in 1983. Wheeew!

That was a nice Saturday afternoon thrifting with my youngest. I found a true tech-fosil, picked up something random and he bought an Imation Superdisk without cables but it still looks very good. No damage or cracked housing.
