The black coloured dish is called Buah Keluak. It is the seed of the pangium edule tree. All parts of this tree is poisonous in its raw form and needs to be adequately treated (think #japanese #fugu)

And something I added to #reuniondinner for dessert was this sweet, red bean soup with a glutinous rice dumpling, known in #Aomori in Japan as a nabeko, and in other parts, a shiratamo and the soup, a zenzai...in Cantonese it's 'hong tau swei' with 'tong yuen' #chinesenewyear

And something very typically Malaysian #losang or the "big toss!" Something the entire family does 🤣🤣GOD that sounds rude in English. Basically a salad with plum sauce and other condiments except ours was shaped like a rabbit. 🤣🤣🤣#reuniondinner
