@useless_modern_god yup... I used to be very active on Reddit between 2017-2019, experimented briefly with Mastodon in 2018, but moved here pretty permanently when Space Karen bought Twitter last year. it's been fascinating watching the new waves each time he does a new idiotic thing, and the #Rexxit wave was even more exciting as it brought a different crowd and boosted the #Threadiverse, which is really good for the Fediverse ecosystem. I'm now experimenting with #firefish but am not sold yet, though the UI is very slick.

Welcome to the #fediverse, fellow fuzzbutts.

How's everyone handling the rexxit?

Though it's not federated, I'm enjoying Squabbles.io a lot. The UI is great, in any device, the community seems kind, the Dev works like a machine to improve everything and though it has no app yet, it's perfectly usable as a WebApp.
It's easier to use than Kbin and Lemmy, but I feel wary of centralized media.
I'll keep trying them all, as it feels like a new Age of Exploration, for the Internet.

Taking people's free labor, locking the product of their labor behind a paywall, and then pissing off those people while also charging them money to access their own stuff is not a sustainable business model. What idiot would invest in that?
Reddit should have learned when Dice did this to Slashdot a decade ago. Comments used to number in the thousands; now they are in the dozens.
Trust only has to be broken once.
I'm on Masto because of #rexxit. I don't do FB/insta. Or twitter. But I've been in the Google/MS ecosystem for years mostly because the alternative is *work*. That's what metafedi will count on.
I'm personally just tired of stuff I use all the time getting switched off.
So I've started posting my #nsfw #photography over on !nsfw_photography@lemmynsfw.com. We'll see how that shakes out. #Lemmy wasn't really ready for prime time yet, but #Rexxit didn't wait. Early days...

John Oliver has joined the Rexxit conversation.
Lots of silliness to come, rejoice!
There’s a part of me suspicious, concerning the moderator takeovers, that it’s a traffic generating gimmick, perhaps even implemented and supported by Reddit staff.

#reddit feels stale and I'm loving it! To be honest, as an experienced and wise monkee, I didn't expect much from the #redditblackout. Bunch off people wander off, but everything else stays the same. But behold, r/all is consists now of boring garbage, and the CEO feels clearly threatened! Well done, reddit! #rexxit #reddark #redditmigration

Now that I'm on a Kbin instance that isn't slow as molasses, I like it a bit better. UI is still clunky, takes too many clicks to see image posts, and did I mention the UI being difficult? But there's more content being served up, and it's definitely more responsive.
so yeah, squabbles.io and readit.buzz are, in that order, my message board feeds.
Hello Mastodon! Here's my #introduction
I'm Jon (he/him). The green guy with an attitude in my pfp is Pistachio.
Here from #rexxit, new to the #fediverse. I'm on #Lemmy at @sharpsphere
Here is my life in hashtag form:

I understand why the fediverse is a cool idea, and I very much like Mastodon, but I’m not sure it’s the right tech for #reddit alternatives.
Beehaw.org (a lemmy instance) just defederated from lemmy.world and sh.itjust.works (two other lemmy instances) because those two instances have allowed too many people in and now it’s hard to mod.
The platform is slow, it’s impossible to set up your own communities, and it’s just not fun to use.
I’m all in on squabbles.io
@pieselpriemel The #Rexxit hashtag seems to be gathering attention :).
@dogriley Here's a timeline. We're not yet at the same peak as from #BirdsiteMigration .

So far attempting to use kbin.social via mobile has been an exercise in frustration. I get that they have had to switch to using cloudflare to deal with the stress from #rexxit refugees, but I have been unable to sign into the account I created there over the weekend and keep getting an "Invalid CSRF token" error. The login session once signed in only seems to last for a short time at which point I have to fight to get logged back in again. I might give a #lemmy instance a try.
Squabbles.io is holding up way better than kbin.social or beehaw.org, and the communities are popping up left and right.
@jbwharris
There are a few of you.
Reddit, much like Twitter, will continue to exist but at what capacity. Twitter comments are now a no-go zone filled with nazis and fascists. What will happen to Reddit when many mods leave and the remaining ones don't have proper tools?
Reddit can still change course but it looks like it will follow the path of slashdot, digg, and twitter.
