It looks like #RFC1149 it still very much current, and surely it could also help with internet censorship in some countries... 😀

I'm not much a fan of April Fool, but this one is actually USEFUL. On this day in 1990 was published RFC 1149, "A Standard for the Transmission of IP Datagrams on Avian Carriers". Eleven years later some folks in Norway got together with Alan Cox and _implemented_ it... which resulted in the following song, itself a parody, by @ssavitzky .

In addition to #puns & #DadJokes, I like to read #IETF 'Request For Comments' dated 1 April. Hard to pick a favorite, but #RFC1149 comes to mind. And dang it! Someone has the username @rfc1149 (wish I had thought of it)

In discussions of how to better transmit data, someone always eventually brings up IP over avian Carrier (RFC 1149) but I always find it a great tragedy how the reference implementation has 55% packet loss. :(((((

I was reminded, forgot and then remembered again that the 20th anniversary of our #RFC1149 implementation flew by without anybody noticing. Here's my piece from the 10th anniversary: https://bsdly.blogspot.com/2011/04/rfc1149-ten-years-of-in-flight-internet.html #pigeon #internet #tcpip
