150 Seiten von #rfkuang 's #babel lassen mich hier tief beeindruckt zurück. Was für eine schmerzhafte Kolonialismusaufbereitung in Fantasyform ist das denn? Bin gespannt, wie sich dieser dicke Wälzer weiter entwickelt.

Interessantes Alltagsdetail. In #babel beschreibt #rfkuang , dass Buchseiten oben rechts vom Umblättern abgegriffen seien. Da blättere ich nie um, sondern unten in der Mitte.

So, I picked up my current novel — Babel, by R.F. Kuang — around 9pm yesterday. At 2am I was still reading, and grudgingly put it down to avoid being an utter troll today.

It’s an excellent book. Haven’t been quite this gripped in a few years.

目前看到了第三章，主人公Robin去Oxford上学。
感觉作者并没有experience 过英国爹，因此虽然有一些英格兰特有的性格+行为subtlety，还是会让人幻视中国爹。上一章打小孩和这一段送小孩上大学简直是每一个严厉+权威感极重，感情发育不完全因此跟人相处非常avoidant也不知道如何表达关爱的中国干部爹的典型形象，包括饭后跟“同事哥们”指点江山高谈阔论发表一些非常保守又狗屁不通的话。
但话又说回来，根据我有限的关于英国爹的理解（主要来自勒卡雷老师），他们的A+ Parenting主要表现在会让小孩感觉他们作为社会中坚就是英帝国在家庭里的reincarnation，以至于比尔海顿和勒老师本人都表示过这种对生物爹的 love hate relationship 会被投射到整个社会/帝国身上。所以L爹从这个角度看描写不算脱靶。
但有趣的是比尔海顿和勒老师属于殖民过程中的Perpetrator，而Robin是victim，他从来没有属于过/也没有任何illusion自己会在未来成为像爹一样的人物（帝国骨干社会中坚）。

Recently I read Yellowface by Rebecca Kuang. It’s an amazing tale of a person who finds herself digging herself into a deeper and deeper terrible hole, while managing to continue inspiring sympathy. Kuang has rapidly become one of my favourite authors, and I can imagine this being a book I reread over the years and appreciate more and more each time.

Just finished #Babel by #RFKuang , and feeling like I’ve been hit by a bus. Best fucking book I’ve read in years, I don’t even know how to describe it. Just, if you get the chance to read it, don’t pass it up.

For what is worth, at least the last month or so was good in terms of audiobooks. I listened to
