The constant battle to keep #RHEL8 working in a production environment this last years has taken its toll.

I wish I could convince the powers that be to switch to #SUSE.

Linux admins, especially el8 (RHEL), if you happen to upgrade to RHEL (or thatever el8 distro) 8.8 which will install autofs-5.1.4-93, it will segfault if you have any direct automaps. At work, I have a crapload of file systems in my direct automomount map files, local and network.

I installed the autofs-5.1.4-103 RPM from pkgs.org and autofs is working just fine now with my direct automount maps. Thank you pkgs.org. Once again you have made me a very happy sysadmin.

Wow, the web #Spotify interface really sucks moose balls. The native Linux program I used to love that was useful no longer works. On RHEL 7 I have little option so I need to use the web interface. When I get a chance to update to RHEL 8, there are native Spotify apps that will work. Updating my primary workstation to RHEL 8 is going to put me out of work for a couple days though. This may be a thing to save for a couple weeks after the semester ends.

I am Mr. Efficient today. I am configuring 2 RHEL 8 systems at the same time. Yesterday, I installed and updated RHEL 8 on both at the same time as well. These 2 machines are serving identical functions, one test, one production and are being set up very nearly identical. I have my entire REHL 8 installation and config documented so this is a lot of copy 'n paste. This is good, I need to be done before Monday and I don't want to work a lot this weekend.

I thought I discovered a huge cock-up in my software build process where some very critical files were getting overwritten due to file names being repeated. (Same software package, multiple Linux platforms). Turns out it was only for a handful of software packages and if I did overwrite any files, I do of course have backups. Time to make damn sure that is fixed for existing software I've built as well as for all future builds. Yea for file naming standards.

I am finally setting up support for RHEL 8 at work. RHEL 7 is great, but old AF. Part of this work is to build the 40+ software packages I build. These are versions either not distributed, or much newer versions than what is distributed. Some are quick to build, others not. First challenge was to make sure I know what depends on what other packages and build in the correct order. That's now done. Time to add everything to the to-do list and get compiling stuff.

I'm thinking I need a pull through cache for my home #kubernetes cluster, to speed up any restarts/redeployments of apps across the cluster. I'm using #rhel8 and #podman

Does anyone have any suggestions? In cluster would be nice, but not critical. Leaning towards just JFrog CR just because of using Artifactory in the past.
