Three years ago, I noticed a conspicuous dry circle of dirt on the wet ground and I recognized it as the trapdoor of a funnel web spider (correct me if I'm wrong, I'm no entomologist).

Don't worry, the door is hinged with silk and I didn't break it or harmed the spider, I just bothered it for a bit, opening the hatch carefully with a stick and shining a light to take a pic. I closed it and left her alone.

#riba so what do we think of Mary Holmes’ bronze medal winning Out of the closet into the garden concept? Intriguing because is it just doing what any good scheme for elderly people should but segregating it? If so could it be accused of ghettoisation? Could a similar scheme but open to all work just as well if people were simply more tolerant? Are there really different architectural needs for queer people? What’s different? It echoes several aspects of Mole’s Marmalade Lane, also in Cambridge.
