Things To Cook in a Rice Cooker

Water Ratio: 4:1

1/2 cup grits
2 cups water

-hit cook!

After it switches to 'warm', add whatever you like. I do savory grits with salt, pepper, and butter or cheese depending on my mood. Some like sweet grits with maple syrup and fruit.

Excluding the bits added at the end, this bowl of grits is $0.18

Personally I'd also only.recommend buying in bulk from shops that have a quick turnover in terms of their stock as well as good reputation.

That being said I only know two in person somewhat close to me and unless you buy like 10+ kg bags those will even be more expensive per kilo.

Tho if you're a big household and you use the #RiceCooker more than the average German uses their Coffee Machine, then that is relative...

Anyway, it's PERFECT. I never made #SteelCutOats so tasty before on the stove. It's amazing!

Our old rice cooker began to crap out, so I decided to go whole hog and get the best to replace it.

First test batch of rice shall be smothered in curry, which is about the only way I find rice edible.

And it was a #ricecooker #meal kind of #homecooking #cooking meal; had just under 1 kilo of rice taking space in the freezer, which I rarely ate down because it was too hard to dig out and put back.

Portioned remainder of 3kg bag out into 1-cup servings with 1/4 dry stock cube in each, take air out of portion bag, store with dry goods in cool place.

Dumped one in the rice cooker +3 parts water (as stock cube has been added) store chicken burger in the steamer basket surrounded by red/purple/yellow baby carrots that were a gardening fail (they should have been bigger - not enough soil), set cooker, when it pops, take out chicken burger and dice, take out rice and carrots, mix together, dress with plum sauce.

The rice turned purple due to the carrots but it didn't affect the taste. 1/4 stock cube was just right for 1 cup of rice for a base seasoning.

Serve with egg rolls if you want/need extra.

Tried out the new #zojirushi #ricecooker my parents gave me for #Christmas tonight. VERY nice. Big improvement over the old one (which was a hand-me-down and had a part missing), most especially bc it doesn't leak nasty gray water/sludge all over the place. 😬

It even plays a little tune when it's done cooking the rice, which means Tim now refers to it as "The Speak N Spell." 😂

Ok, so I've been thinking for a while about #kitchen design and I think I can now summarize my thoughts.

#induction cooktops are great - they are so much more efficient than flame or resistive that a 120V/15A circuit can run a 2 burner hotplate.

Electric #ricecooker and #pressurecooker ( #instapot ) are super efficient.

So what if where today we have a range there was just countertop with a 4-outlet (3wire/20A ) GFCI block and a range hood, with a (fan) convection oven below? super versatile

Breakfast preparation is about to commence. Who else uses a rice cooker for grits/polenta and oatmeal?
