I just finished the #fantasy #RiddleyWalker by Russell Hoban. Set in a far future post-apocalyptic England, it follows 12yo Riddley Walker who is surviving alone in a primitive world that has forgotten most of its history, where news is relayed by storytelling and rhymes while itinerant puppeteers spread propaganda. It has a few flaws (e.g. lack of female characters) but if you enjoy weird unique works, this should be your next read.

Reading #RiddleyWalker again. Well, just dipping in and out. The language is as apocalyptic as the setting; bruised, degraded, ugly-beautiful. This book can take a while to get into but it has so many rich rewards. #bookstodon

@Forestofglory The book is written in a phonetic vernacular debased version of English, to reflect the speech of the times. It's tough to understand in places, but adds a lot to the atmosphere, and experience of reading this book. Recommended! #RiddleyWalker 3/3
