IMO, what I'd like to see with the next iteration of the #SteamDeck is a new motherboard. Just like how #FrameworkComputer releases motherboards with updated specs, that's what I want for the Steam Deck, which is repairable to a similar degree. #RighToRepair #Valve

@gnuplusmatt @GotNothing @fatboy I’m good with an immutable as a gateway. Imagine a school district that invests in a company, say #system76 and uses #popos while asking S76 for support. That district has full #rightorepair, can easily have someone upgrade any and all desktop or laptop AND have a super stable and gaming friendly distro.

I’m not advocating full Arch or Gentoo for school districts but #fedora, #popos, #debian, heck…go #elementary if you want pre packaged simplicity.

I don't think Amazon is the root cause here.

And it's certainly not the consumer's right to return things.

Rather it's the non existent life cycle management for a lot of products and/or that it's "not profitable" to restore some products to "as new" and to sell them again. So #rightorepair ?

We could talk about packaging tech too, but that's an obvious one that already gets lots of attention.

Wow. local NYC hero Louis Rossman (1.75 million subs), who ran a small computer repair business on E. 14th thru the pandemic, very smart, interesting guy who leads the #rightorepair movement, has finally been broken by the Vampire State. A local group has recently set up a repair cafe. I went along this morning to see how it’s going and how I can get involved.

I thought my #Squeezebox Boom was beyond repair with several issues e.g unable to connect over wifi and a speaker that sounded distorted. So I took it apart, cleaned it, made sure all the connections were properly placed and re-assembled it. Now it sounds better even than when I got it the first time.
