Fight censorship on #RightToReadDay! Last week, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors passed a unanimous resolution supporting library digital rights: "Digital libraries are necessary to protect democratized access to information, knowledge, and truth"

“Overall, more than 2,500 unique titles were targeted in 2022, the highest number of attempted book bans and restrictions since the association’s Office for Intellectual Freedom began keeping track of this data more than 20 years ago.”

Mrs. Seidman was the name of the children’s librarian at my public library when I was a kid. Ms. Mirer was the name of my elementary school librarian. We remember the names of the people who make a difference in our lives. #NationalLibraryWeek

At least here in the Dragon Conspiracy Territory, it's a fine line to walk between providing information (which I can do on work time and with work resources) and political advocacy (which I can't,) so library workers, who know, often can't act.
If you are thinking the best thing to do on #RightToReadDay is to buy or read a banned book, you've bought into a shallow framing. The best thing you can do today is punish a politician for trying to ban your neighbor's, child's, or your existence.
As part of #RightToReadDay, I took a look at the Unlucky Thirteen (the top 10 had a tie at 5 and four books holding down the 10 spot), and let's see:
* All 13 challenged for acknowledging the existence of sex
* 7/13 challenged for queerness (and therefore queer sex)
* 1 explicitly challenged for "EDI content", several more likely tacitly challenged for non-whiteness.
Perhaps most tellingly, 90% of the challenges recorded came in packs, almost certainly cribbing or copying from created lists.

Tomorrow (April 24) is #RightToReadDay. There are bunches of things you can do to mark the day, some as simple as checking out a banned book from your local library.
My (73 yo) mom & I were talking about the #GOPWarOnFreedom this morning--specifically about the ironically named Moms For Liberty, their book banning, & their efforts to destroy school libraries. She's pissed. We're all pissed. FIGHT AGAINST IT.
