Lisette Oropesa is astonishing, as usual. Luca Salsi, in the title role, as a slightly lighter voice than Quinn Kelsey or Michael Chioldi (my two most recent Met Rigolettos), but his vocal acting and word-painting is wonderful. He's probably the only #Rigoletto who gets the line "questo padrone mio, giovin, giocondo, si possente, BELLO" with all the right nuances. Greg Coughlough is just as good as Monterone. I continue to be impressed with Speranza Scapucci's conducting. #ClassicalMusic #Opera

Listening to Metropolitan Opera broadcast of #RIGOLETTO on SiriusXM. Multiple indispositions, most importantly, Javier Camarena replaced Steven Costello as the Duke. I don't know when he last sang the Duke, but never in this production and he literally had only a few hours to prepare. He got lost in a few places in Act I ensemble but duet with Gilda was fine. We'll see about what comes up. As highly as I think of Camarena, a well-prepared cover might have been better idea. #ClassicalMusic #Opera

The older I get, the more I dislike the story of #Rigoletto. A young girl falls in love, at first sight(!), with a stranger who then kidnaps and rapes her. Does she seek revenge? No. She gives her life to save his. And she doesn't have the excuse of longtime abuse. It's both unbelievable and, quite frankly, disgusting.
